Cool Video from General Conference 2006

Published by Don Ryan under Ministry

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__5VgDRBXFk]I remember this like it was yesterday. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it in my life. My understanding is that this is a taste of what the great outpourings overseas are like. I also had the privilege of baptizing a couple of kids from my camps during this crusade. It was awesome. Enjoy.

Making Business Trips Bearable

Michael and Gabrielle at the hotel

I spent the last couple of days in Cleveland for business. Business trips are usually a drag for me when you have to eat and sleep alone. It can be just plain boring. This time, Charity and the blossoms joined me. They had fun in the hotel while I attended to my meeting and then, when I was done on Friday, we spent the afternoon at the Cleveland Zoo. I have updated the pictures here.

In the same spirit of family business trips, Charity is coming with me to New York City next week. I hope to have lots of pictures from our trip there. Now, I have to spend the afternoon going through camp worker applications. Have a great holiday weekend.

Well Duh!

Published by Don Ryan under Ministry, Random Thoughts

James 4:2
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not .
KJV

I have not posted because I’ve been incredibly busy both with work and church. In addition to my ever growing case load, I am coordinating two Holy Ghost rallies and a teacher training in the next three weeks and trying to get ready for not one but two camps. Ye gods! So anyway, I am exceedingly busy and about as spiritual as a pet rock.

Anyhow, I was in the prayer room prior to church tonight running my Apostolic rosary and letting God know what was going on in my life (since He hadn’t been clued in) and everything that was pressing on me and the above verse from James (my favorite book in the Bible) popped into my head. I have been worrying and fretting and running around like a fool trying to do all of my work and church stuff (and collect an SOC offering for our district) and not one time have I asked God to help me with this. And, since God is a gentleman, He hasn’t butted in. So, while I was killing time in the prayer room, I asked God to butt in. I have not because I ask not.

We have really enjoyed having our kids in YMCA soccer this spring (except for the early games). They have a really great time and have shown real improvement over the spring. I put up a bunch of new soccer pictures on Flickr. Enjoy.

Cleveland Indians Baseball Game

Originally uploaded by Jon Newman.

Last night Charity, the blossoms and I took in a Cleveland Indians game. Becky had to get up early so Charity’s brother came with us. I forgot my camera but this picture gives you a pretty good idea of the view from our seats. It was a warm, gorgeous night with the wind blowing out of the park. Lots of home runs. Best of all, it was $1.00 hot dog night. Good Times!

The Indians won 15-7 and it started raining hard in the 9th inning. We got soaked going back to our car. Best part of the night- the guy who ran out on the field in the top of the 9th inning who gets to spend the night with Cleveland’s finest.

Happy Mother’s Day

Here’s a quick post to wish all of the wonderful ladies out there a Happy Mother’s Day. As I’ve mentioned, my mother is no longer with us but her influence continues within the lives of me and my children.

I would be remiss if I didn’t wish a Happy Mother’s Day to Charity. She is not only a great wife but a terrific mother. She tolerates me being the “fun parent” and really does run our home. Most guys try to marry someone they can admire as much as their own mothers. I have succeeded. If you know my wife, you know this is true.

A sad note on this Mother’s Day. My grandmother has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She is 82 years old and has had a wonderful life. More importantly, she knows who her savior is. Keep my dad and aunt and uncle in your prayers during this difficult time. Thanks.

Rockin’ the House

Published by Don Ryan under Random Thoughts

Last night, our church hosted the chorale from Indiana Bible College. In short, they were awesome. Great music, great worship and very nice kids (at my age, they are kids). We hosted a couple of young men from the group in our home last night. They were respectful, well mannered and everything you would hope your kids would grow up to be. They also went to bed at a decent hour so bully for that! The chorale is singing on the public square in Mount Vernon at 11:00 AM so I don’t want to miss that.

I have some work to do here this morning before I head over to the square and then a meeting at the Hilton at Easton. No church to night so I may head to GameWorks before I come home. After being around college kids for a day, I feel young again.
