Update from Providence

Filed under: Travel, Work Life — Don Ryan @ 12:02 am

I am back in my hotel room after the second of two very long days.  I have had a great time and actually gotten a lot of work done.  Due to the issues of medical confidentiality, I can’t share any of the work stuff I’ve been doing but suffice to say it has been a productive trip.

Downtown Providence is gorgeous.  I took a tour of Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design this afternoon.  Earlier today, I went to Woonsocket and visited Saint Ann Arts and Culture Center and had a very old school seafood lunch complete with brown paper wrapping.  By far, this was the best meal of my trip.  I had enormous portions of New England clam chowder, scallops, shrimp, and cod.  Good Times!  Saint Ann Arts and Culture Center is a former Catholic church which was purchased by a non-profit organization and turned into a cultural center.  The church is huge, with a 50+ foot ceiling in the main sanctuary and beautiful frescos painted on the walls and ceiling.  You would have to see it to do it justice.

The only other thing of note on this trip has been the weather.  It has been lousy.  I left Ohio Tuesday in a snowstorm.  I left New York on my connecting flight in a snowstorm.  Once I got to Providence, it snowed about 4 inches and then proceeded to rain all day (3 inches total) and cause flooding conditions.  All we need is frogs to come in from the ocean and we’re good.  Anyway, looking forward to coming back here soon.  Until then, I’m heading home in the morning.  See you in Ohio.
