The Week/Month/Year that was

Happy March dear readers! My blog (at least at this home) is coming up on one year old. After I got home from work last night, I started to reminisce on everything that has happened in the last year/month/week. It’s been a doozie.

My first post on this site was March 18, 2007 but the transition to that started on March 3, 2007. It is amazing how you think your life is going to turn out and how things actually unfold. I could not, in my wildest dreams, have estimated or imagined the events of the last several months/years. Truth is, things will rarely develop as you plan them which is why I have made my motto to be content in whatever state I find myself. It has been a learning process for sure but I think (hope) that I’m better for the experience.

So in the past year, I became a former pastor, nearly became a former Sunday School director, started with one firm, quit, started a new firm, started a couple of side businesses, learned to play drums again (still very average), and came through the whole ordeal with minor nicks and bruises. The lesson here is blessed are the flexible for they shall not get bent out of shape.

Last Friday, in Barberton, I forgot to mention that we saw a couple of folks who came into the church while we pastored in Minerva. These are the most wonderful, Christian people you’d ever want to meet. It was so good to see them again. We missed them terribly and they’re doing so well. They will always be our babies.

This week, our new firm added two new consultants. I spent most of yesterday setting up their computers and email and getting them ready to bill. I am really enjoying he administrative aspects of the new partnership. As I previously mentioned, in the next few years I plan to get out of case management/consulting all together and work exclusively with our financial side (both internal and trust custody). I’m very excited about his new opportunity. I am worn out after this month. It is amazing to me how you can take a concept and turn it into a viable business in such a short period of time. I’m reading a book called Founders at Work. Highly recommend it for anyone working in/with a start-up. That would include Home Missions as well (a ministry that is near and dear to my heart).

That is all of my rambling for now. I do have some work to do this weekend but largely plan to unplug. Our Sunday School Conference is next week. It should be a blast. See you all on Monday.
