My Morning Surprise
I went through my inbox this morning and found this email from my district superintendent to all of the ministers in Ohio. I’ll let it speak for itself.
Dear Pastor,
The much advertised and greatly anticipated 2008 Ohio District Sunday School Conference was canceled due to bad weather. All of us were extremely disappointed, but none more so than our Sunday School Director, Bro. Donnie Ryan.
The revived conference is the primary method and moment for communicating with pastors, Sunday School teachers and leaders in the Ohio District. It is also an important way to garner financial support for the Sunday School Department. Now, it will be another year before he has this opportunity.
Brother Ryan had to refund all the pre-registration money that had been sent in for the conference. He also canceled the chance to receive an offering. Since some expenses could not be avoided regardless of the cancellation, the department lost about a thousand dollars.
Easter Sunday is the Save Our Children fund-raising drive for the General Sunday School Division. The district retains a percentage of that money, so it is a vital source of financial help for the department. Can you help this year with a generous offering? I can tell you without hesitancy that it is sorely needed. I am confident that when the need arises, the Ohio District responds. Please respond on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008.Brother Ryan will be as shocked as anyone when he reads this email. He neither gave his approval for this nor even asked me to do it. This is one of the few times I am pulling rank on him. I know, however, that he will be very pleased to see how well you step forward to help him out. $1000, $500, $100 or less (or more) will give his account and his morale a great boost!
Thank you.
Brother Jordan
Needless to say, I am speechless. Thanks, Brother Jordan, for your support of Sunday School.
