Iconic DKNY Billboard

Originally uploaded by ryaninmtv

This DKNY billboard is at the corner of Houston and Broadway in New York. It is an iconic image of the pre-9/11 skyline and has been one of my favorite sights in the city since I started making my regular pilgrimages there two years ago. Today, I learned that it’s going to be replaced by a billboard for Abercrombie‘s Hollister brand.

I sound like one of those old school New Yorkers whining about how everything is changing in the city but I am really sad to see this billboard go. It is a classic- I think it’s been up for something like 20 years and it symbolizes New York in transition from grit to glamor. I guess it’s fitting that it’s the last thing to go.

Still, my trips to the Lower East Side/SoHo won’t be the same anymore. Bummer.
